Janice Coppola received her B.M. and M.M. from the Cleveland Institute of Music and also attended the North Carolina School of the Arts (UNSCA) for high school. She has studied with several clarinetists who have been students with the late Daniel Bonade. Ms. Coppola is currently performing as a klezmer soloist (featured as a cast member/musician in Pittsburgh Public Theater's INDECENT) and free lance musician (clarinet and saxophone) (klezmer, jazz and classical, as well as other World music) not only in the Pittsburgh area, but in New York, New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia and Ontario. She has performed with, and founded, three klezmer ensembles in the Pittsburgh area - The Hot Matzohs, Eastern Watershed, and currently KleZlectic. Their first CD (the latter) with all original compositions composed by Janice will be available summer of 2019.
Janice has been a music director's at Temple Sinai since 2007, directing, arranging and transcribing for, the Temple Sinai Band who perform for first Friday Shabbat of each month. She currently performs the second Friday of the month Shabbat at Temple Beth El in Mt. Lebanon, where she also presents a klezmer and dance workshop for teens. With Sara Stock Mayo, Janice performs services around the Pittsburgh area, especially with Ohav Shalom of the North Hills.
As a soloist, Janice has performed with the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, The Preservation Hall Band, the River City Brass, the Northern New Jersey Baroque Orchestra and The Edgewood Symphony, the Plainfield Symphony in New Jersey, to name a few. Ms. Coppola is also a private music instructor at the Johnstonbaugh Music Center in Bethel Park teaching clarinet, bass clarinet and saxophone.
